DECEMBER 2002
Holy smokes, it is nearly Christmas time and I have not written my Christmas newsletter to send out to the few friends I still have in my old age. My excuse is that I was kept busy getting this month's column written and in December I will be busy playing Santa Claus at various functions in order to raise donations for my annual Santa's visit to two hospitals on Christmas Eve. By the way, that is my advance excuse for what will no doubt be a very limited January issue. Like I did last year, I hope to be able to get many of the bars staff and managers to pose for a Happy New Years Photo thanking all of you for your support during year 2002. As for me, I certainly wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year and thanks for your support, advice, criticisms and contributions and please, keep it up next year so Tom (Duck) will keep paying me.
THE MISSING MC
Last month I wrote that well known Canadian MC, Marty, was a no show for the Swagman Body Painting contest. Marty came to see me to explain that he was never contracted to MC that contest, only the Wet T-Shirt contest. He had attended a couple of meetings in which the Body Painting contest was discussed but, as in the past, he never was involved with the body painting. No doubt there was a communication mix-up when I attended the contest and was informed that the MC did not show up and Bobby the Clown had to cover the event. Bobby also assisted Marty during the Wet T-Shirt contest. Marty wanted to emphasize that he always honors commitments and would have been there if he had been requested to do so. The bottom line is that both events turned out to be well attended despite the efforts of some mystery folks to downplay participation. Sometimes a changeover of ownership in a business encounters a few bumps in the road and the adjustment period is difficult but it appears that the Narra Swagman management is meeting the challenge and a smooth road is just around the corner.
KILLER HIGHWAY
There have been 25 accidents along the MacArthur "Killer" Highway causing fatal injuries usually involving pedestrians trying to cross to the opposite side, many at night and some in the daylight hours. This is the stretch of road, lined on both sides by trees, leading to San Fernando. Authorities are scratching their heads trying to figure out a solution to this problem with one newspaper columnist, Ding Cervantes, even saying they should consider speed bumps, which is absurd on a busy highway. No one addresses the problem of speeding motorists, careless pedestrians that do not look both ways when trying to cross a highway, motorists that do not know where the dimmer switch is on the car, traffic lights, marked crossings or the general belief of the Filipino driver that they do not have to follow any traffic rules at all. A case in point is that of hit and run driver Zacarias Valencia, 73, of Sta. Rita, Minalin, whose pick-up truck bumped 7-year old Joeven Mamaradio on that stretch of road, killing him. Zacarias did not even slow down, he just kept driving and never reported to the police. Fortunately, a witness was able to jot down the license plate number and description of the vehicle. A few days later alert authorities stopped the truck that was being driven by Valencia's son causing Zacarias to surrender to the police. Will Zacarias go to jail? Of course not, for he decided to settle his case with Joeven's relatives and even provided them with financial assistance to pay for hospital bills and funeral expenses. He initially paid 40,000 pesos to the kin and they decided not to pursue the homicide case. Zacarias said he "felt sorry" for Joeven but there was no chance for him to stop and besides that, he was terrified that bystanders might beat him up so he decided to get away from the scene"; What a bunch of crap, why then did he not drive to the nearest police station and seek help, why wait until days afterwards when his son was stopped by the police?" Only then did this 73-year-old character become filled with remorse and had the money to pay his way out of jail. Then you wonder why those Filipino drivers with money do not worry about observing traffic rules or driving safely. If authorities want to solve the "Killer Highway" problem then enforce the traffic laws that are on the books and even teach pedestrians how to cross the street, maybe then driving in the Philippines may become a bit safer.
HOLLYWOOD BAR
With all the openings of big fancy bars that try to outdo each other in size, décor, sound and the number of ladies working it is kind of nice to know that there is room for a smaller, less pretentious bar in this town. The original Exotica bar was a big room that never went any place but now that it has been gutted and turned into two smaller clubs the present owner should enjoy a bit of success. The sister bar of the Exotica, the Hollywood Bar, opened its doors to the public last month (8 Nov) and it was an opening that was well attended but by the time I arrived, close to midnight, I was able to find ample seating and could take my time to look around. Even that late, thankfully, since I was a bit hungry, there was still great open face sandwiches available and meatballs. Yes, I did pig out a bit and enjoyed my drink and really was impressed with the new look. Wally, previous manager of the Clarkton Hotel, Blackjack and the original Exotica was in charge and that was good news. Will this bar be a "hot stop" for the tourists, only time will tell? As far as good seating, ample space and ability to see everything without having to strain one's neck, no problem, but in this competitive atmosphere, it all depends on the friendliness of the staff and whether the female employees on that stage can cut it. The friendliness is there, but a few more visits will be necessary to see if the quality on stage will draw the crowds.

WASH OUT THOSE DIRTY CLOTHES
My goodness, I did not realize that there was so much money to be made in the laundry business. Not only are more and more new bars being opened but also it seems that those small launderettes are popping up all over the place. Now, I do not particularly find this to be exciting news but when someone sends me an E-mail from Saudi Arabia and asks that I plug his wife's new laundry service, what the hell, why not, there is more to life in this town than just bars (I think). I will quote the message from Mr. Anthony Grimm (no fairy tale here): "My wife has a laundry service named Seven Day Laundry service which is located near Maharajah Hotel on Perimeter Road. She will give any active duty or retired member of the US Uniformed Services a 10 percent discount if they show her their Military ID. My wife's name is Annie Grimm!" I galloped up the road towards Friendship and checked out this laundry and found Annie lovingly gazing at her washing machines and at the same time sewing together some fantastic little things that only women could appreciate but might bring in more money than the washing. Forgive me; I will use the word "cute" as they are great for weddings, etc. Priscilla the horse was not with me or I would be able to give a better description. They are open seven days a week, 0800-1800, Sunday 0900-1400 hrs and charge 28 pesos a kilo. Self-wash is P50 a load, same price for use of the dryer. If you are lucky, you may run into the 18 year old daughter, Antonette, who is a charmer but is studying psychology, so please, no "nuts" need visit. Good luck Annie and family and for sure, when hubby comes home he will never lack for clean clothes.

If you farted consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb. That is why Iraq's Saddam is still two years away from having the "bomb".
VOLLEYBALL
During the 1st Annual Asian Women's Volley Ball Championships the Thai ladies, as expected, kicked some butts and came out number one. I was able to watch a few matches between the Thai ladies and the Filipinos and believe me, it was never close, but the Philippine ladies were better looking! All the ladies were looking good in those good to look at two piece outfits, those long legs, no fat at all and oh, yes, once in a while I actually concentrated on the game. What surprised me were the tall, busty, Japanese ladies, a couple of which are pictured here. They sure did look good and I guess they must be eating a lot of those MacDonald's hamburgers to have grown so much taller. Oh yes, the event took place at the Clearwater Resort on Clark.

MEET THE TOURIST
The number two man heading up the "Wrecking Crew", Jake (the snake) was in town recently, escaping the Trevor City, Michigan chilly weather and took the time to answer my question, "what is your favorite bar". Without hesitation he indicated the Flamingo Bar at the Orchid Inn because he had the most fun there. The ladies were very receptive to various suggestions on how to entertain and there were nights when management laid on some pretty good food snacks on the house.

CADDY SHACK
Reggie has not sold the Caddy Shack but he has taken on two Australian investors that were willing to put up the money to completely renovate and from what I have seen so far, this will be one fine bar to visit when the project is complete. You can expect an early December opening. In the day time this will be a sports bar, a new pool table has been purchased and with the new look, new air-conditioners, new Captain for the pool team (Mick Porter) there will be no problem with welcoming the Caddy Shack back into the pool leagues. Paul Willis will be looking for some other "lucky" team to use his talents. Starting at 4 PM the atmosphere will shift to a more intimate style with the dancers coming on duty just in time to shift the pool player's attention away from those last critical games. Signing privileges well be available for regular customers where they can settle their bills at the end of the month and avail of a 20% discount (For sure, this will be only for those with a good credit rating). This is a wonderful time for Reggie who has been a long time fixture in this town and has recently overcome a serious lung cancer that could have been fatal. He was able to respond to chemo treatment and now will be able to sit back and enjoy the fruits of his labor of love and residents/tourists here will be able to enjoy a rejuvenated Caddy Shack.
CAMELOT OPENING
All I can say about this new club on Fields Ave is that if you haven't seen it; get your feet moving and head there right away. Naturally, those of you that are out of town may have to wait awhile but this is a sight to behold. It is obvious that Horst (Volcano) has invested a bit of cash into this venture and it reeks of quality, quality, and more quality. I visited after the club was open only four days and the weeding out of the dancers had not taken place yet (Believe me, this needs to be done). There are plenty of choices but I found myself looking at the waitresses more than the dancers. The upstairs balcony had nice comfortable seating and you could see the stage downstairs easily enough. I was impressed with the bell used by well-heeled bell ringers; It has to be the biggest one in town and for only P5,500 you can bang the hell out of it. One question, where do you buy a bell that big? Enough said, just go and see for yourself and at the same time say hello to the management team of Peter Taylor and dynamic Swiss Gundar and for sure you will have to "look up" to Peter.

MORK AND MINDY

|
Lennie the cook |
Be calm Wayne, I'm not writing about you again, just the new food outlet located below what used to be the Birds of Paradise. For some reason the owner came up with the name "Mork & Mindy" and they specialize in American style food, especially hamburgers and hotdogs. The owner, Mike Marinello is a Satellite Engineer living in the States while his Filipina wife, Adelpha stays here to manage the business. While visiting there I learned that the Thai female owner of Trend Travel will be opening, in the near future, a Thai Canteen right next door to the "M&M" and this will be a wonderful addition to Fields Ave, especially since this horse loves Thai food. There is still no action for the Birds of Paradise area upstairs. A Japanese investor had committed to lease the area but backed out so it remains vacant and far as I know, still available for leasing.
A PLEASANT "REFRAIN"
Curiosity took me to the newly opened Refrain Bar & Restaurant on Fields Ave, located close to the checkpoint, past the Margarita Station, above the Wheatfields store. A few hours later, as I left the premises I knew that my next visit would be with Mrs. Horse so she could enjoy this very entertaining club. It is Filipino owned and the customer base is Filipino but believe me, tourists/expats are more than welcome. The Refrain is a spot where one can take their wife or girlfriend and enjoy an evening of live music and fine dining as well. The owner, Beng, is a beautiful young lady, a great host and very talented as I was present when she took center stage with a band from Manila (the Freshmen) and sang with a voice equal to many of the Filipina recording stars. Her brother, Cyril Vizcayno, is the manager and Operations manager Paul are both young, energetic, bubbling with personality and a desire to make each customer feel welcome. A live band is featured every night and karaoke during the breaks. There is a P150 person cover fee which is consumable for drinks. There are also seven VIP rooms available that offer privacy while singing along with private karaoke screen in each room. During the day, breakfast is available starting at 9 AM and they stay open for lunch as well. During the day there is a 50% discount and this continues until the band starts up in the evening. The menu is extensive ranging in price from 100 to 300 pesos and Beng has guaranteed me that they serve a great sizzling sisig so I will order that on my next visit (I made a return visit with Priscilla and the food was excellent). I was pleasantly surprised during my visit to see this type club open on Fields Ave and I think it is a welcome change but I'm not sure if it will get many tourist visitors. My feeling is if you want to take your special lady out for an evening she will appreciate, do not refrain from visiting the "Refrain Bar & Restaurant".

OPTIMISM
83 year old retired Capt. Martin (Norwegian) has just taken out a 10 year lease on an apartment at the Maharajah Hotel complex and bought a new car as well.
PATTAYALAND
PattayaLand, located where Marine Bar/Splash used to be is open for business. When I visited early Nov two of the three bar areas were open and at the late hour of Midnight there were no customers. It was dead but then I believe it had just opened and they were not fully operational. A return visit later in the month did not show any improvement but I did overhear a few ladies calling it "Patayland" which has a very different meaning. It may take off so the jury is still out on this one. It's a 3 bar mini-complex each managed and run by a different mamasan. She's responsible for staffing her individual bar. The front seating area and inside are available for any bar's customers. Prices are attractive at P30 for local drinks till 8 PM and P35 afterwards. Ladies drinks are only P80! They have a small BBQ and hot plate and serve a limited menu of burgers, hot dogs, soft shell tacos and fries. Pizza and other items are ordered from Kokomo's. Mo claims that the "Moburger" is the biggest in Angeles City but then he has not eaten the super whopper at the blue Boar Inn. Plans are to convert part of their stay-in upstairs to a balcony bar overlooking Real and Santos Streets.

THE PICK-UP
When I asked Geeard what the name of the club he is building on Real Street will be, he answered "The Pick-up", now this name may change before opening, but I did ask twice and his answer remained the same. He took me on a tour and the place is massive, overwhelming. There are three floors, the main area will feature a dance floor for the customers to get some exercise, bar, seating, lights, bathrooms, etc. The second floor wrap around balcony will provide seats for relaxing and drinking where one can watch the action on the main floor and will have a terrace overlooking Real Street. The third floor (sure wish there was an elevator) has seating as well and for those that want to escape the loud music, there is a large room set off the balcony with a bar and waitresses. Dancing partners should not be hard to find as unescorted ladies will be allowed in and this is something that I will be looking closely at to see how it works. It will not be a girlie bar and there will be no escort fees (BFs). On occasion live music will be featured and a comedy shop once a week. Special effect lighting that will give a three dimensional look, great sound system and other special effects will be installed. It will be a very interesting place to visit when opened sometime early next year.
Another Gerard project will be the construction of condos on a 1600 square meter lot on the street behind the Caddy Shack. When construction starts I will provide a few more details.

CHUCK ANDRE
Anyone there in Pattaya, Thailand, that reads this and knows Chuck Andre, please tell him that his niece, Theresa Johnson is trying to get in touch with him. She wrote the following: "Hello "Harry the Horse"! I am so glad you wrote me back. I miss my uncle very much and have painstakingly spent hours everyday online trying to find him with no success. The last time I saw him was when he came to the states back in 92 and he vowed never to step foot in the U.S. ever again. His last letters came from Texas and Moreno Calif., and I know he is no longer there". Chuck, Theresa's e-mail address is: symplekindalife@aol.com. Put down that beer bottle for a minute and drop an e-mail
to your niece Chuck, she seems to be nice and for some crazy reason you must be her favorite uncle.
GETTING THROUGH CUSTOMS
A local lad, Don Don, who works on the oil rigs in Alaska and comes here every three weeks or so on his break was bringing in 250 lbs. of Harley Davidson motorcycle parts last month and had to figure out how to get through customs without paying some exorbitant customs fees. Being a quick thinking lad, when asked if he had anything to declare, replied "no". The agent, of course, was a bit curious as to what was in all the bags he was carrying and Don-Don told him children's clothes and a carburetor for his jeep. The agent questioned why the carb. and Don-Don explained that he used the jeep at the orphanage he established in Tarlac, housing 85 children. Mr. agent said," oh, you must be a priest then", and Don-Don replied, no," a Baptist Minister!" Don was waved through customs with a smile and now is available for prayer services at the Hangout.
By the way, while collecting San Miguel holy water on Fields Don-Don entered the Kitten Club and fell on his ass because of the slippery floor that must be waxed every hour or so. He wants to know if he can sue?
BODY SEARCH
The Prince of Denmark, Mons, does not like the policy of the Camelot's body search of all patrons entering the club. He was wondering where on his body he would hide a bomb when wearing shorts and an open shirt? He went elsewhere for a drink but if body searches are required, maybe a sexy waitress could make it a more pleasant experience.
EMOTIONS
When Emotions first opened a couple of years back, Ted had informed me that eventually he would construct another smaller bar adjacent to the original. By Jan 2003 this objective will be met, as construction is ongoing now. A name has been selected but he would not give it out until registration is completed. Business at Emotions is good but Ted is ready to get out of the bar business and take a rest so the whole complex is available for sale with a price to be negotiated. This can be a good deal, two bars designed to work together and a large second floor that is ideal for construction of studio apartments. This would be a walk in, walk out deal and the location, though not on Fields Ave., is still good (Perimeter Road).
FREE AT LAST
After nine long months Gary Stone has finally been freed from Immigration detention in Manila. No details on what he had to do to get this release as he is keeping a very low profile staying at a close friends house in the Clarkview area. A source has indicated that he has already left the country for Thailand and who could blame him if he decides to do so. Recent conversations with Fawaz Cozma, another expat suffering human rights violations at the hands of Immigration authorities indicates that he also may be released by the time this column is published in Dec. He is looking forward to a joyous Christmas with his wife and family and has no intention of leaving the country.
CLOSURE OF FIELDS AVE
For security reasons as well as experimenting to see it is a good idea, Fields Ave is closed to traffic from Illusions to MacArthur every evening from 7:30 PM to 1 AM. This was the plan but it is not always consistent. Some nights it is closed only from Illusions to the Jade Cool building and that is really just a waste of time. The problem is that Tricycle drivers association is complaining and this is a thorn in the Mayor's side as he tries to make that area safer and more customer friendly.
UPDATE: Since I wrote this early in November, by the 24th it was already a thing of the past. There was just not enough manpower to enforce it and even though it was nice to walk down the middle of Fields those with cars were finding it extremely difficult to find adequate places to park.
MANAGER'S CHOICE
This month's manager's choice comes from the Voodoo Club as super manager Dennis Kelly selected the charming 19-year-old "JM". She used to work in Barrio Baretto, has a nice smile and a great personality. She told me "I have many boyfriends".
IMMIGRATION WOES AGAIN
It would be nice if Tourism Secretary Richard Gordon would sit down and have a chat with the Immigration folks at the Airport and try to develop a friendlier attitude and consistency. Richard wants to develop tourism but some, not all, immigration personnel seem determined to keep tourists out or just treat them miserably. A case in point is long time visitor to Angeles City and pool player, Gordon, who is upset over his recent treatment. When he cleared Immigration at the Airport he did not look at the stamp they affixed to his passport but when he went to Mr. Ticket that office failed to notice the code written into his passport that meant "do not extend". By the time this was discovered and returned Gordon's visa had already expired. He was told that he would have to go to Manila personally to sort it out. He did this and after being sent from office to office he was told that a letter explaining why his visa expired was necessary. He started to write a statement and then was informed that it had to be written and signed by a lawyer. Guess what, no surprise, for P50 there was someone waiting for him that took him outside, around the corner and there, on the sidewalk were a bunch of "lawyers" sitting at desks typing letters out on old manual typewriters. After paying P150 for the necessary letter he handed it in to the required office and was told to return in three days. In all this time, no one was able to explain to him why that particular code was affixed to his passport. Told that it would not be possible. He was rudely treated with questions such as "I notice that you have come in and out of the country quite often, why, are you working?" He explained that he had been coming here for years because he was retired, had family here and had no problem with spending his retirement income in the Philippines. After much haggling, his visa was extended for 59 days but stamped "final extension!" Fortunately he met someone that could help (outside of the normal procedures) and after much paperwork and more trips to Manila succeeded in obtaining a normal visa without the negative codes. Needless to say this event cause Gordon a lot of time and the expenditure of money that should not have been necessary. What a disgraceful way to treat a tourist, especially when so many people are traveling elsewhere rather than come here. There are advisories from different countries warning their citizens not to come here and when one does he is treated like shit! There was no logical reason for this type of code to be placed on a traveler's passport. Gordon's only "crime" was his frequent visits here and his willingness to spend his retirement money in the Philippines. I have heard other stories of rude treatment at the airport and various immigration processing points and would be interested in hearing from any travelers to Angeles City that have had similar experiences. I would enjoy passing on these comments the next time I attend a meeting attended by government tourism officials. Please e-mail me at Lacasa@ag.triasia.net with your story, maybe I can pass them on to some folks that can do some good, who knows, we can dream, can't we?
BOMB SCARE
The 24 Nov Sunday edition of the local Sun Star newspaper featured a front page headline that read "Bomb threat prompts cops to shut down Angeles bars". The article stated that "Another bomb threat in the red light district in this city has prompted police to shut down bars and clubs in what they claimed a counterterrorism measure." The Monday edition of the Daily Enquirer also carried this story on page A16. This came as a complete surprise to those of us living and doing business here as to date there has been no signs of any problems and business is normal. Any report like this, especially when the source is new police city director Sr. Supt. Jimmy Restua cannot be summarily dismissed. After checking with a high ranking police official I found that the Sun Star story and the Enquirer story are misleading, especially the Sun Star headline. NO bars were closed down and there is no intention of doing so. Yes, there were intelligence reports indicating that there was a threat but the increased security measures taken no doubt avoided any direct action. The Mayor issued an executive order to close fields Ave to traffic from 21 to 25 Nov during the hours of 1900-2400 hrs. A meeting of bar owners was called for the morning of 25 Nov by Sr. Supt. Restua to assure cooperation when bomb sniffing dogs will be making the rounds of the bars as an increased security measure. Fields Ave remains safe and with all the increased security the local thieves will no doubt do a disappearing act as well. Bottom line is that if any of you read those articles on the internet, there was a bit of exaggeration, no doubt in an attempt to sell more copies of the Sun Star.
COUP RUMORS
Nearly every day the newspapers carry stories about a possible coup plot, unhappiness with the revolving door policy for the AFP Chief of Staff position, possible terrorists attacks or MILF attacks. Never a shortage of intrigue in the Philippines and when you think about it, changing such a responsible position as the AFP Chief of Staff every three or four months doesn't make too much sense and certainly does not allow time for stability or policy changes to be made and be effective; no wonder that the military is becoming a bit restless. Despite this, daily activities in Angeles City remain normal with not too much worry about what the newspapers have to say. More and more new bars and restaurants are getting ready to open or have done so already. The town is gearing up for the Christmas/New Year activities and there is no reason to stay away. The dollar exchange rate is very favorable for the tourist and a good reason to visit Angeles to take advantage of the bargain shopping. For sure, anyone visiting will not be bored, especially when reading the newspapers.
LOLLIPOP
The Lollipop club has been completely renovated and will open in mid December. Mo's added a concrete roof and for the time being will have a roof terrace bar. Word is that he'll be putting a small hotel on top.
TRY AGAIN
The terrace overlooking the pool area of Kokomo's was never a success; it was an idea that fizzled. Never mind, when something doesn't work, try another idea! This time Mo is adding 3 hotel rooms at the pool area. These will be a little smaller than the Orchid's new rooms. Each room will have a queen-sized bed, cable TV, a front balcony overlooking the pool and a rear balcony looking down Real Street and A. Santos St. The rooms will also have a computer hooked into Kokomo's network and a LAN connection for people bringing their own laptops. Rate will be about P1,000/night. The Kokomo's Business Center now has a dedicated 512kbps Internet connection. They do not share the connection with anyone. It is blazingly fast.
THE TWISTER
I wrote about the dancers being featured every night at Kokomo's and the fact that I did not think it was very successful. I have not changed my opinion in the least but improvements are being implemented. The Business Center has been moved to its original location and a comfortable private seating section has been built on the balcony. It's air conditioned and the music levels are nice and quiet. They have hostesses or you can bring one of the dancers. There is a consumption fee of P500/hour that can be used for ladies drinks. They also have a "bottle" club where you buy your own bottle at a nice discount and it is there every time you return. It will be interesting to see if this latest idea works.
NEW SHOPPING COMPLEXES
Another new shopping complex, Nepo Mall, is scheduled to open on 14 December. It is right across the street from the Jenra Mall and should do wonders for the traffic congestion in that area. Additionally, Pure Gold opened their new store in Dau on 23 Nov and it is Makro style without the membership requirements. The aisles are wide and the place is nicely air-conditioned. If you thought the traffic was bad heading to Dau from Balibago, you should see it now. Thankfully, I have found out how to take the back roads that allow me to come out by the Dau BPI bank and avoid MacArthur Highway altogether. Without this alternate route I doubt that I would every make it to the store during the peak weekday hours.

CAKE FIGHT!
A Filipino tradition that you do not hear much about is during various celebrations where a lovely, expensive cake is served, a bit of it is scooped out and put on the faces of the recipient and eventually, depending on the mood, those in attendance as well. It is fun and everyone acts like a kid as you chase people around trying to put a bit of cake on their face and try to avoid being attacked yourself. One does not usually get too messed up during this robust activity but last month, I attended a birthday party for an active duty GI at the Voodoo and I witnessed what has to be the mother of all cake fights. It started off with a big, great cake in the shape of a woman and it ended up - well, I will let the pictures tell the tale. Believe me, I was trying to protect my camera, take pictures and still stay away from being creamed with cake by one of the ladies. The floor of the bar was slippery with cake and I nearly fell, the celebrant and some of the girls were covered with mess but through it all, it was funny as hell. Oh yes, I think I was the only one, in a moment of calm, was able to scoop up a piece of the cake and actually eat it. Horses never miss an opportunity for a bit of a feed!

AMBULANCE SERVICE
Health Visions now provides ambulance service to both Health Visions members and non-members. Health Vision covers the fee for this service for members but for non-members there is a fee of P600 for the Angeles City, San Fernando area and P1800 if a patient requires service to Manila. When you call for an ambulance please provide the following information: your name, name of patient, exact location of patient, symptoms and contact phone number. For service call 0919-353-6250, or 0917-437-2598. By the way, the Philippine International Hospital being built by Health Visions in Angeles City is nearing completion; once opened I will provide a listing of the services provided. From what I hear it will be a first rate hospital.
WET T-SHIRT CONTEST
Kokomo's had their November wet t-shirt contest - nothing I can say here about it that you have not read before. Same routine, different ladies but they are always successful as the guys never get tired of looking at the display of goodies, noting where their favorites work and then setting up a game plan for the evening. Everyone is happy and that is what counts. The Dirty Duck ladies took 2nd and 3rd place and first place went to Vickie from the Twister. There were 54 ladies competing and 62 paying customers enjoying the food, drink and two-legged female scenery (Beeline's John G. was in the pool so a bit more water had to be added).

FRIENDSHIP BRIDGE
Word has reached me that early next year construction will begin on the new four lane Friendship bridge to replace the temporary one lane passageway that has been in use for a couple of years now. During construction the temporary bridge will remain so that traffic flow in this vital area is not interrupted. This will require relocation of the squatters in the area and also the frontage housing the popular woodcarving workshop and display on the south side of the bridge. I am sure that many motorists will be saying "about time!"

There were so many places to eat great meals, i.e., Cottage Kitchen, Oasis Hotel, Carmenville Coffee Shop, Four Seasons, VFW, Powder Keg, Blue Boar Inn, Orchid Inn and too many others to mention. Just wanted you to realize that there is no reason to miss out on great food when you are visiting here during a holiday. Naturally, I ate too much because Priscilla is a pretty good cook and her homemade pumpkin pie was "right on". That should get me some "loving" in the stable tonight so with those magic words, I'm out of here, and oh yes, remember to be kind to horses!
